Presentations and Song Writing
The grade 3/4's are presenting their instruments inspired by the First Nations, using materials from the Coulee. It was nice to work on our audience manners as well as our presentation skills. We created class rubrics for the next step of the project as we work towards modernizing our designs individually.
Grade 1/2 took what they learned last week using the white boards and made a final copy of their rhythms which we are going to make into a class song. They also learned a French song to connect with their studying of the Acadians. Ask them if they can count to seven in French for you.
Here are some pictures from the presentations:

Kindergarten
This week Kindergarten has started to get ready for their very own Peace Assembly.
We started by learning the Acknowledgment of the Land. If you would like to practice this with your child here is a link to the version we are using. Acknowledgment of the Land
We have also been learning Oh Canada. We are going to try singing the middle in French! We will see how we do. We are also working on a song called the Song of the Heart. We watched a video today of this music video just to get familiar with it and we will be starting to learn it next class. It would be amazing if you could listen to it a few times at home. Song of the Heart.
As we work towards mastering those we are also playing some action singing games as well.

What Have We Done This Week - Grade 3/4
Grade 3/4 has been looking at the music of the First Nations. We explored how they built instruments and the purposes behind their instruments. We have also looked at modern instruments and their families. This week we pretended we were in the past - living in the coulee. We made a giant list of natural materials we could use to build instruments or create sound. In groups we started to design a blueprint for an original instrument using only those materials. Here are some pictures of the work so far.
