Superhero Theme Song Lesson One

Hi Eric Harvie Superheroes!

This week is going to be dedicated to creating your own theme song!  Every day I will have a new lesson for you that adds to the one from the day before.  In the end you should be able to create a fabulous theme song for your superhero identity!

Step one: Watch the video of me explaining the activity!

Step two: you will need a piece of paper / visual journal and something to write/draw with

Step three: Divide your paper into 4 sections.  I have shown you one was to do that in the video but
there are other ways. Write the numbers 1-4, one number per section.

Step four: Listen to Song number one -  In section one, using pictures or words...
                        1. What are the dynamics (volume) - quiet (piano), loud (forte) or a mixture
                        2. What instruments do you hear?
                        3. What is the tempo (speed) of the piece? -fast (presto) or slow (largo) or somewhere
                                   in between
                        4. What do you like about this piece - what makes it suitable for a hero?

Step five: repeat step four for the other three songs filling in the remaining sections.

Step six: Look at all 4 sections and figure out what they have in common!

Here are your 4 songs:

WonderWoman Theme:

Batman:

Woosh - fun on a Friday

Woosh - pass around the circle

Woah! - changes the direction of the woosh

Zap! - point and anyone and the woosh passes to them

Groooooovalicious - everyone boogies down and back up again in their grooviest way

Freak out!! - run around the room with your arms waving and come back together - the woosh continues

Soundtrack To Your Life

Today's optional challenge is to come up with a playlist of songs. If there was a movie made about you, what songs would play in that movie? The soundtrack of your life.

I want you to think about your personality, your qualities, and the things you like...

Make a list of 5 or 6 songs

Pick your favorite song to dig further into.  Figure out why it is your favourite, why does it have meaning to you.

Here's where the art comes in...  Design an album cover for your soundtrack.  As you are listening to this song, do some drawing, use pictures, words, symbols... anything you like to create the album all about you!

Music Listening Art Activity

For this activity you will need a comfy place to listen as well as some art supplies! Enjoy the piece
Adagio For Strings by American composer Samuel Barber. Pay attention to how the music makes you feel.  Music can be very powerful.

Music Monday

Every year Coalition Canada puts on an event called Music Mondays. I am attaching their website information so that you can take a look.  All day long they are live streaming some pretty cool things from live music to hosting an after party.

Music Monday Website

The song that they have chosen for everyone to sing this year is called Hymn to Freedom.  Here is some information about it from their website.

Our 2020 anthem is Oscar Peterson’s iconic “Hymn to Freedom,” with lyrics by Harriette Hamilton. At a time when our world can seem divided and fractured, “Hymn to Freedom” espouses a message of unity and equality, which resonates as deeply today as it did in the 1960s, when it was embraced as the anthem of the Civil Rights Movement. We look forward to joining #TogetherInHarmonywith you on May 4.
